چکیده

Background: Diagnosing patients with giant cell arteritis (GCA) remains difficult. Due to its non-specific symptoms, it is challenging identify GCA in presenting polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR), which a more common disease (1). In addition, commonly used acute-phase markers fail discriminate between and (infectious) mimicry patients. Objectives: To investigate selection of biomarkers for their utility the accurate diagnosis two cohorts. Methods: Treatment-naïve participated Aarhus GCA/PMR cohort (N=52) Groningen GPS (N=48). Symptoms biomarker levels were compared phenotypically as isolated PMR, controls healthy (HCs). Diagnosis or exclusion was based on clinical assessment majority cases aided by imaging. Serum/plasma 12 measured ELISA Luminex. Results: both cohort, we found that weight loss, elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) higher angiopoietin-2/-1 ratios but lower matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-3 concomitant PMR (Figure 1). confirmed (1) platelet counts are characteristic not look-alikes, low MMP-3 proteinase 3 (PR3) may help from other diseases Multiple inflammation patient control groups when HCs. Conclusion: This study, performed independent cohorts, consistently shows potential PMR. These be select require further diagnostic workup. Platelet look-alike Figure 1. Diagnosis and management of giant cell arteritis.

British Journal ofGeneral Practice, June 2012 329 INTRODUCTION Giant cell arteritis (GCA) is the commonest form of large-vessel vasculitis and affects branches of the external carotid artery but also the ciliary and retinal arteries. The symptoms are caused by local ischaemia due to endovascular damage and cytokinemediated systemic illness. There is considerable overlap with polymyalgia rheumat...

Giant cell arteritis: diagnosis and management.

Giant cell arteritis should not be a diagnosis of exclusion, an afterthought, or a last thought. There is urgency to establishing this diagnosis and initiating therapy. All practitioners who treat adults will be confronted with these patients. Some will have classic presentations, some will have subtle presentations. When patients complain of fever, fatigue, malaise, weight loss, or painless vi...

Diagnosis and management of giant cell arteritis: a review.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW This article aims to provide a review of giant cell arteritis (GCA) clinical features, differential diagnosis, treatment options, and recent literature. RECENT FINDINGS GCA, first described by Horton et al., is a systemic immune-mediated vasculitis affecting medium-sized and large-sized arteries. Characteristic findings include headache, jaw claudication, visual loss, and co...

Histopathologic Features of Giant Cell Arteritis in an Actinic Granuloma Lesion

The association between actinic granuloma and giant cell arteritis (temporal arteritis) has been claimed by some authors. There is a hypothesis that actinic radiation has the principal role in the etiology of both diseases in a similar way. Here, we report a case of actinic granuloma that had characteristic pathologic features of giant cell arteritis in histopathologic examination without clini...

An Unusual Presentation of Giant Cell Arteritis

Giant cell arteritis (GCA) is a chronic vasculitis that typically presents with headache, fever and polymyalgia although atypical presentations are known. We present a case of GCA with nonproductive cough and pyrexia of unknown origin emphasizing this atypical nature of presentation. We report a rare association of GCA with granulomatous hepatitis. We also support the use of PET scanning in dia...
